Listening to a comp of The Best Of The Blue Thumb Recordings from The Pointer Sisters. This is pre-80s stuff, and it is funky as hell.

This comp has some of those tunes. They led off the comp, and now I've hit this patch of jazzy songs, which I never really knew they did.

The synthy rhythm in the middle of 'Love In Them There Hills' sound similar to the sounds William Onyeabor was coming up with.

While waiting for my car earlier at the dealership, I caught a great Muzak sequence of 'Thriller' into 'What's Going On' into 'Superstition'

I would be hard pressed to pick my favorite live/in studio performance of 'Jackpot' by Nikki Lane. Solo...full band...duo...it always works.

Another great new pre-released track from the upcoming Waxahatchee album. Based on the few tunes I've heard, this one will rank high for me.

I avoided diving into Rihanna's "Anti" because I thought that 'Work' was a terribly dumb song. Still think that, but the rest is really good

Lest we forget Kennedy from Alternative Nation, and Dave Kendall from 120 Minutes. I was a MTV junkie back when they played videos.

I'm witcha. I've still got hours of 120 Minutes recordings on VHS. I burned a couple hours of live performances from 120 to DVD a while back. What a blast watching that stuff.

I don't always "only like their early material", but in the case of the Arcade Fire ... I only like their early material. Angel Olsen is a great recent example of an artist I love who has really shaken it up album to album (especially if you count that super lo-fi an raw first EP), who I will gladly follow along and listen to ...

... I don't expect a band to summon up POST MORTEM feels on the regular, but I'm with this writer in feeling like something I loved about the band has been gradually lost.

To each their own. My counter argument to that article is that, most bands that have any sort of lengthy career have sonic/artistic detours along the way. And most have a mis-step or two as well. Even the great ones. It just feels like an obit is being written before its time in the case of Arcade Fire. I could be totally wrong, but, that's kind of my point...time will tell.

@Corycm I prefer Sweet Spirit, but A Giant Dog has a certain sophomoric charm, in my opinion. I don't spend much time dwelling on their lyrics or anything. Just fun, basic, rock 'n roll where I know pretty much what I'm going to get. Also, they are a blast live. I could totally see them fitting in as an opening act for a late 70's CBGB's gig.

Exactly that. What I've heard from the new album keeps bringing me back to late 70s Ramones-style punk stylistically.

Last May, we found out he had a specific mutation to his cancer that allowed him to take a pill form of chemo that is more effective. We started to see some signs back in March that the cancer was fighting back. This time, we had about a 10% chance that my dad would now have a new specific mutation to allow him to take a different pill, and it happened.
