So I've been holding off on celebrating this AOTM until it was official, but I am absolutely thrilled to be getting my own copy of Demon Days.

2005 was the summer after my freshman year of college, a weird overlap between adultdom and childhood. Every subsequent summer I stayed and bummed around my college town, but in 2005 I lived at home and even worked my old high school job waiting tables in a strip mall for a season and Demon Days became the soundtrack to that last stunted summer of legal adulthood driving my parents' van and adhering to their curfew.

There are very few records that stick with me beyond the moment they come out. I'm sure there are a lot of us who do this, even with older music: you get the album, play it constantly for weeks and weeks and then months later the sound of it makes you sick. Not so with Demon Days. It's the album I put on when I don't know the musical tastes of the person I'm giving a ride. It's the perfect summer album. It's great for a rainy winter day. It's monolithic.

Oh, and weird side note: I spent four months living in Cannes in 2007. For the last month, my roommate was a Swiss kid 5 years younger than me who would always borrow my ipod and listen to Demon Days. It was pretty much the only thing we bonded over after I mistook his pot-leaf sunglasses, shoes and boxers to mean he enjoyed pot and not served as reminders of the "crippling pot addiction" he'd obtained and gotten over by age 16.

I hope they're better quality than the BBNG sticker that couldn't stand up to the condensation from the bottle I stuck it on.

This album is tied to memories from high school for me. It's hugely nostalgic, but also still holds up as great on its own merits.
I am very excited to own this on vinyl. Honestly I do kinda wish there was something new or interesting about the layout or something, but that's a small wish. When you have an album this good, you don't really need all the extra bells and whistles.

I actually never listened to this album all the way through, doing that now and I like it more than I would have thought. I'm not too inclined to that much hip hop and thought that this was going to be basically a hip hop record. It's a nice mix of hip hop, experimental pop, touches of Blur, and some other weird stuff. I was out of VMP this month but with the National exclusive they have me until May at the latest. So if I'm going to stick around this is a good record to add to my collection.

    Always preferred the Debut.

god the temptation to shitpost it after all these weeks of posts is just too tempting. I cant help myself

I am that kid with stickers !- I will be working out where the best place to put them for a while - resisting temptation to avoid speakers and car interior :)

Can I take a sec to point out VMP hasn't released a black vinyl record since February 2016? I'm not such a sucker for colored vinyl (well, I am a bit now, but anyway), but that's pretty freaking impressive.

I agree with this statement. Would have really liked something unique about the design of this release. The gatefold looks great, but the simple red vinyl leaves a little to be desired IMO. Would have liked some sort of splatter or just something to set it apart from any other record pressed on red translucent vinyl.

If it's anything like previous AOTMs, I think the artist picks the color, or at least has a say. Personally I'm just thrilled to have this at all - OG copies still go for $200+.

I have never heard this so I am excited for that part, however I must say the translucent red + the anime art is looking SICK!

I can see why Cam & Strof said this would be a hyped announcement.

Also off topic @cjschaefer @PaulyB @thestorfer I think the websites SSL cert is not working? I got an "connection is not secure" message when logging in a minute ago.

You're absolutely right. I did hear them mention in the livestream, just prior to release, that the artist picked the color. They said something to the effect of "We found it a little odd/random, but after talking with them and thinking about it a little more, we totally get it now."
