Mine is the Grado GT Cart & Stylus, long since discontinued. Probably from the 80s, came with the turntable when I bought it. Fantastic sounding, I really like it. I called Grado a while back and they said the Black is pretty much the direct replacement, but that all stylus fit on all carts so it didn't really matter which one you picked.
Just another data point, I had the Shure M97xe on a Pro-ject TT a few years ago and didn't much care for it. I replaced it pretty quickly for an A/T440ML that smoked it.
Using a little bit of elbow grease I was able to remove the stylus. So I should be good to go when my new one arrives.
Has anyone ever ordered from Needle Doctor before? I'm just curious if anyone knows where they ship from?
Needle Doctor is in Minnesota. They are very reputable.
Thanks. I didn't get a shipping notice but MyUSPS shows a package coming form MN and I was hoping that was it.
I just ordered a Grado Black stylus from the same place. Curious to see how it sounds compared to the old GT stylus.
I already have a Grado Black1 so Unfortunately I'm no good for comparisons. I know it sounds way better than the stock cartridges on an AT LP60 though .
I got my replacement stlyus today. Had it changed in about 30 seconds. So far so good. I didn't get a chance to go back and listen to any of the records that I specifically noticed the distortion on yet though.
I just bought a Grado Gold1 and like it very much.
Got mine the same day as yours, definitely a step up from my older GT stylus. I'm impressed with the Black1, I have noticed there is less distortion on tracks with excessive highs than my old stylus. In fact, the high end distortion is gone. I've also noticed the Black1 does not collect dirt and dust like the GT did.
