This is from 2008, brophus!
This won the John Peel Festive 50 back in ... '92? Remember my 16 year old self hearing it on the radio and being blown away, still an amazing headphones track, not least for how it bursts in after 2 minutes. Has to be heard in all its +9 minutes majesty. Sadly they never fulfilled their promise after this but if you're going to write one great song 'Geek Love' has to be it. Dream Pop at its finest.
I follow Eugene Kelly of The Vaselines on Twitter, and he posted or re-tweeted a live clip of his 90's band Eugenius earlier today. One of the more enduring things about Kurt Cobain was the way he supported bands he personally liked during interviews and by covering their songs. Kurt introduced a lot of people to The Vaselines, and then, ultimately Kelly's next band Eugenius. Their two 90's albums "Oomalama" and "Mary Queen Of Scots" are both full of 90's power pop done right. Revisiting both here at work today. I may have listened to these records as much as I did Nirvana itself.
Saw some Marcy Playground mentioned here. For anyone who hasn't heard Wave Motion Gun give it a listen. It's my favorite of theirs.
I have bad memories associated with Marcy Playground (young relationship type things) but damned if they weren't pleasant to listen to.
If I hear this and Souvlaki Space Station at the show I'll be in heaven.
Ah jealous! Just checked to see where they were touring but only 2 UK dates down south and a festival in the UK. Was hoping for a few more UK dates than that.
they played 'em back to back at the last tour in chicago!!! fingers crossed 4u
After I posted I searched setlists and both are there so things look good. I'm gonna cry at the show, I know it.
Because it is Janet Jackson's birthday, we should revisit one of her best songs/videos from the 90's, shouldn't we? Someone should really upload a better quality version of this video though.
Sure the single came out in 1989 but the album didn't come out until 1991 so
OMG!!! I needed this thread in the worst way. Life has been kicking my ass lately but scrolling through here and seeing all of these memories of a simpler time for me (graduated HS in 94, college in 98) made me feel a lot better. So glad I found this. Now I need to go listen to some of these songs that I haven't heard in years.
Always felt that was pretty much a perfect song. At that time in my life, I was listening to a ton of New Order, Smiths and Pet Shop Boys, so this collaboration was essentially made for me. And it didn't disappoint. Still sounds great today.
Apparently the new Captain Marvel movie on the way is going to be set in the 90's. I wonder what kind of gems we'll get in that soundtrack. Maybe Carol Danvers will be super into grunge.
I see girls wearing basically no clothes these days. This is what I got in the 90's. For the love of god..
Yet that outfit above would likely not be acceptable for most schools dress code because the white shirt is too short and shows skin on her sides.
I should have found a picture with a flannel underneath the overalls, that'd be a more accurate representation of the times..haha
Always felt that Supergrass was a seriously underrated band, particularly their 2nd album from the late 90's, "In It For The Money". That's a terrific record, and one that doesn't have much drop in quality from start to finish. Actually, most of their records are really strong.
you remember the movements for this one guys?
