Hey guys, been waiting for this forum for a while! Are we limited to NY, Chicago, Denver for the community section? Not suggesting smaller cities should have there own thread, but it might be nice to be able to connect with VMP members outside of those cities/communities.

Also, how the hell do you decide which records to feature?

Now we are getting down to business and the hard hitting questions are being asked. Why is Nutella such a tasty treat the whole family can enjoy?

    1) We'll be adding more cities for sure - trying to figure out a good process for doing that. Ideally, we'd like it to be organic and come from community demand. With that said, there are a handful of cities we know have a large number of VMP members so we're at least getting those up and going. Will figure out a good way for people to request their city to be added.

    2) We have a giant spreadsheet where each team member adds 3 albums they would like to see featured during a certain month. Additionally we get submissions from labels, artists & trusted music sources that are added to the pot. We spend much of the month all listening through the albums, narrow it down to 3 through a lot of debate, late nights and fist fights. Once we have the final 3, we go to the labels/artists, see what kind of package we can put together for our members (exclusive pressing, custom features & extras) and make a decision. Our goal is always to find albums we consider essential to your music collection and work with the artist to make them special & unique for VMP members - pressings you can't find anywhere else.

Being that Ferrero controls over 1/4 of the world's hazelnut supply, the question is what does one do with that much power over a delicious nut? As with most things, Italians do it better, and in this case I think the obvious answer is they use their good looks and strong-arm tactics to receive only the finest of the hazelnut crop...the kind that is like chocolate crack for the whole family...

BBC of course has a different story, but I prefer the simplicity of mine.

What are your sources for finding new music generally? Websites, blogs, etc?

My go to's have mostly been Spotify (just searching through the related artists sections), pitchfork, Manthony Fandango (The Needle Drop), numerous sub-reddits. Just looking to broaden my search.

Local radio stations, such as 105.5 in New Jersey and using Pandora to plug in those artists found on 105.5 to expand.

When I remember, NJ101.5 on the weekends have an awesome variety of music, which is also plugged into Pandora to expand the horizon.

I'm like you in that I usually search through specific playlists or will see a band listed on a subreddit I follow (/r/vinyl has been a great source for me) and will add it to a Spotify playlist to listen to.

My question to the Admins: Will the community be able to choose a record of the month? Perhaps a poll listing whatever albums you're thinking of running with and the community can vote on it?

I follow a TON of bands, labels, and music mavens on Soundcloud and typically spend about 20-40 hours a week just listening to my "New music stream" there. If I really want to dive into the unknown I'll wander aimlessly and lost through Bandcamp.

Regarding the community choice record we don't know yet. Definitely something we'll toss around and see if it could make sense in the future.

KEXP (especially John Richards and Cheryl Waters shows) are fantastic resources. Treble, Stereogum, and Gorilla v. Bear are all good to supplement Pitchfork.

I post my top 80-100 tracklist every year and usually send out CDs of it to people who request them. Not that we have the same tastes necessarily, but I'd be glad to send you one in December once it's done. Really goes for anyone on here as long as it doesn't break the bank. I haven't ventured into Spotify yet but sharing the playlist on there would prob be easier.
