This is a mixtape :
Geto Boys? Houston is technically southern.
Totally understand, based on the clues just really hype for this one!
I want it to be Soul Food so bad!!
I think Goodie Mob 'Soulfood' and UGK 'Ridin' Dirty' were a few best guesses a few weeks ago.
Of which either would be amazing
Even in hip hop its true anymore, most "mixtapes" are just albums called by a different name. Its become a lazy industry term mostly thrown on new artists albums so labels can create hype without having to pay for clearing samples, etc...
As you should be
UGK got a VMP exclusive pressing last fall, so I don't think it would be them.
That's the way I look at it now, too. There used to be real mixtapes to build hype, but now they all get thrown on streaming services that are monetized, which to me, makes it not a mixtape.
Chance The Rapper technically hasnt released an "album" which is silly because 10 Day, Acid Rap, and Coloring Book are all albums. Now his Christmas and Lil B mixtapes are closer to what an actual mixtape should be.
That's not how this works, though. Madlib got a VMP exclusive and a Rap And Hip Hop sub release. So did Lil Simz. If it's a different album by them, it's actually very possible
Sure but that's not what we are talking about with Badu or even a Madlib mixtape.
Thats fair, since both are closer to what a mixtape traditionally is. I just dont think hip hop in mindset = hip hop in musical genre
I'm going to start using the word "coded" instead of "problematic". Actually I'll use both.
Well there has been a UGK release so maybe it'll follow the path of Little Simz. Already in discussion with the holders of the rights, means less convos to be had.
IMO they have different meanings. Coded implies that there is another meaning that is implied by the term. I.e. "Urban" really means black.
Hmm I guess something "coded" is potentially "problematic".
