Finally listening to this Blossom Dearie album. This is great! I hadn't pre-listened, so I went in cold. Sounds exactly how I hoped it would

I really didn't read much about her or the album in advance. A lot of what I had in my head was based on the year it was released, and that cover photo. That probably sounds kind of silly, or contrary to the "can't judge a book by its cover" attitude, but, it sounded how I thought it would sound. And I REALLY enjoyed it. Good winter months album.

I agree though! The cover is one of the reasons I checked it out immediately. And then I ordered because it's entirely up my alley, and while a repress elsewhere may happen in the next year or so, I want it now! It's very much the type of music I like to listen to on vinyl.

@GritNGlitter Couldn't agree more with this being the type of music that works for me on vinyl. The Classics sub has been the thing that has kept me as a member. They have made some great picks since they launched it, but, this is definitely one of my favorites.

My vintage shuffle's workout playlist started me off with 'Head Like A Hole', and finished things with 'Sin'. Only 2 NIN songs on there.

I wouldn't mind 'Wish' I guess, but I'm not the biggest NIN fan beyond "Pretty Hate Machine". There are some tunes on "The Downward Spiral" that I like, but that album was played to death when I was in college, so it isn't one I return to much.

It was such a kick to listen to X-Ray Spex's 'Identity' while working today. It led me to break out "Germfree Adolescents" when I got home. I haven't listened to that one in far too long.

So what do we think of the two tracks Ryan Adams has released from his upcoming 1st release of 2019? Think I like 'Manchester' a bit better.

'Doylestown Girl' was pleasant enough, but didn't really stick with me much. I think 'Manchester', although also pretty middle of the road sonically, was a little catchier.

It was interesting in that you had all of this guitar power rotating on stage, but then Joe Ely comes out and brings down the house with a solo performance of The Flatlanders' 'Borderless Love', which is a perfect song for the times. Power comes in various forms.

Right on. In my book power is produced via total emotional commitment to the music. Sometimes it's bone shaking. Sometimes it's heart breaking. I just posted a good example of the latter over in What's Spinning.

This was also my first time seeing Alejandro play with Don Antonio. They are an excellent pairing, and it is clear that Al loves those guys. That's one of my favorite things about him. He assembles killer bands to present whatever style music he is focused on in that moment. This one seems a bit more collaborative overall tho.

So far we've heard a French language cover version of "Life On Mars" that totally worked, and a French language version of "Heroes" by Bowie himself that didn't really translate all that well.
