Welcome from a Dad of two. Jealous that you’ve got kids to get into it, my young ones don’t even know vinyl exists! (Dad plays his record in the basement)

Hey, VMP addicts. I'm new to the club, and new to the drug.

I'm a 19 years old student in literature and philosophy, living in Paris. I started to collect vinyl records when I was 16 and never could stop. My financial resources are as restricted as all the student's, but spending all my pasta money on records never seemed a bad idea.

I'm so glad to discover that a relevant, kind, and so well-informed music community exists.

My taste in music is focused on art punk and free jazz, right now.
Television, Bauhaus, Patti Smith, Talking Heads and Joy Division are probably my favourite artists alongside The Velvet Underground.
I'm also deeply into the post-punk revival era currently happening. Bands like Iceage or IDLES blow my mind and I mosh alone in my room.
Ornette Coleman and Archie Shepp are my jazz idols. Keith Jarret makes me cry at night.

All music/VMP record store recommandations are highly welcomed! I feel like I'm in a kind of music lovers pub, drinking beers with fellow addicts.

Currently spinning Jane from Occupied Europe by Swell Maps.

Hey, I'm new to the VMP crew and new to collecting vinyl in general. I have been a music nerd for years but vinyl has always seemed a bit pricy. I have since stopped caring and decided to give into temptation. Food is highly overrated anyway.

My tastes run all over the place. Mostly I listen to the blues, '50s/60s pop, rock, punk, post-punk, and that ill-defined genre known as "alternative", which can magically stretch to include both The Shaggs and Nickelback. I also enjoy some hip-hop, "world music", and classical, and I sometimes like to pretend to enjoy jazz, but not often.

I live in Nova Scotia, Canada, which is cool I guess.

Currently spinning: Gang of Four - Solid Gold.

Greetings, hoosier. How are you surviving the winter? It's been four days since I've seen the sun.

Ottawa winters are a mix bag...we get some snow, lots of rain and freezing drizzle, extreme cold with crazy windchills and the occasional sun. Hard to plan around the weather really as it's so unpredictable.

    Hey all,

Just joining after acquiring a turntable, powered speakers, and my dad's record collection (75+ albums). I listen to a lot of folk/country (Turnpike Troubadours, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan), Punk, LoFi (Orwells, Neutral Milk Hotel), Rock (Diarrhea Planet,) and tons of the classics.

I live with my wife and three kids in the Bay Area.

Welcome. My wife and I moved to Alameda one year ago because of a job she got in Oakland. Before that we'd always lived in SoCal. I grew up in Huntington Beach and she was from Long Beach.

    Hi Everyone,

I've been a VMP member for almost a year now but just recently joined the forums and I'm sad it took me so long. Seems to be a great community and I'll definitely be posting a lot more. I started collecting vinyl a couple years ago and like many of you, I became obsessed with collecting almost immediately. I am located near Sacramento, CA.

I got into collecting records when I started producing sample-based hip-hop music as a hobby. I started off by collecting the popular funk/soul/jazz records to start teaching myself how to sample like my favorite producers (Pete Rock, DJ Premier, 9th Wonder, J Dilla, Madlib, etc). I now collect a little bit of everything, but am a lot more picky when it comes to digging for sample material and generally try to steer clear of the popular records, unless I am challenging myself to put my own spin on a common sample.

I have discovered so much music that I might never have heard if I didn't start collecting records. It's been a pretty rewarding journey so far and I have been impressed with the quality of the VMP releases I have received so far. I think my favorite has to be Mm..Food with The Main Source being a close second.

I'll be moving to Sacramento this summer. I'll need some recommendations for record stores to visit. ;)

Absolutely! I know a bunch of good spots. Definitely hit me up when it gets closer to the summer and I would be happy to give recommendations.
