So based on the conversations of which decade is better (especially the 2007 as an all time great year bit) and the success of the Album of the Week Club thread, I thought it would be fun to have a thread where every week a different musical year is discussed.

The years will be drawn at random from 1960 to now, and it will never be the same decade two weeks in a row. People can talk about their favorite songs and albums, post videos, even submit top 10 albums list (which could be weighted to find out the groups top 10 list)

Thoughts, suggestions, and concerns are welcome. We can officially start next week.

I know I said I'd start this thread this week, but due to initial lack of intrest or suggestions and real life issues I'm going to wait another week.

I thinking for totalling individual AOTY lists into a group AOTY list.

    1st place= 10 points
    2nd place =9 points
    Etc....
    10th place = 1 point

This thread is a cool and interesting idea... and the scoring system might be a good way to go about it.

Are you looking for suggestions for a year to start with? I'd suggest 1991 or 1992. There was a lot of transition happening in a number of genres. The 80's were going out and something new was in. A lot of excellent albums coming out at this time. 1991 included Nevermind, The Low End Theory, De La Soul is Dead, Blood Sugar Sex Magic... there were a lot of popular terrible things too. Electronic music was really taking off, Commercial Metal was becoming something else as grunge pushed-out the hair groups. Hip-Hop was hitting its stride but the commercialization was taking over (see Vanilla Ice). The pop-R&B of the 80's was being replaced with something with more street sensibility.

Edit: Sorry it took me awhile to post this - someone came into my cube. I started typing before the year question was posed. '83 would be a cool place to start.

Yea just kind of doing some pre maintenance. Seeing what years people are most excited to talk about.

Ok now you and @mcherry fight to the death on 83 vs 91

'83 is a good choice. Let's try that one first. I'll nominate '91 for second choice.

94, 97 and 2005 were big years for me, I think we should start with 83 though.

Just for the record I'm keeping track of years mentioned and there is a good chance they will be used earlier than years not mentioned.

1979 would be a great year too. I’m hyped for 1983 too.
