    Hey all,

Just curious who folks like to buy vinyl from online in Canada. No shipping costs, quick turnaround, great Customer Service, etc.

    Northern Volume
    Funky Moose
    SRC Canada

    Any others people would recommend?

Honestly, I usually just use amazon. Which I recognize as not-ideal but its usually the cheapest and I'm not quite flush enough to shop ethically. THAT SAID...I haven't even heard of the ones posted so...thanks!

My biggest complaint with amazon is it's sometimes unclear what version/pressing of an album it is.

Completely true. I usually don't really care - but just now I was looking to see how much amazon was selling that Wavves album for and it was significantly cheaper but I can't tell if its because its a plainer copy/coloured vinyl/whatever whatever.

Online, I use Amazon Prime mostly, a bit of Discogs/Musicstack. I have used 2fiftyrecords in BC prior. I was going to try that Funky Moose but almost every item I clicked onto ended up being "out of stock", so I only try it if I am having a hard time finding something.

And yes, finding the actual pressing info for an LP on Amazon is terrible.

Checking out their site right now. They don't seem to have a ton of stuff...

They don't, but what they have is good, and many prices fair.

Use code "welcome" to save a few more bucks.

I've used shop.umusic.ca, it's pretty pricey but keep an eye out for sales - grabbed a bunch on Black Friday last year!

I usually stick to Amazon.ca. I’ve also had good interactions with the following:

https://www.northernvolume.com (Not the greatest prices, but great and speedy service. Plus they have a Mofi and MOV section.

https://www.funkymooserecords.ca Good selection of used records. They also have their own vinyl sub, which is a mix of Canadian artists and the odd surprise. They really mix up genres as well.

https://shop.paperbagrecords.com They often have good sales.

There are some others (Music vaultz and direct from the label Universal, etc.), but I personally don’t find the prices or selection that great.

Bandcamp is hit or miss re: shipping. Depending on the record, shipping can be anywhere from $10 to $30.

Does anybody know of a good Discogs and/or EBay seller who is worth checking out? I keep hearing about this “Timmy” guy in other threads, but he doesn’t ship to Canada.

I ordered once from Funky Moose Records (their subscription thing). I got an interesting Canadian indie record (the Wooden Sky). However, it was the exact same version as the Amazon one, and about 15$ more expensive, so I cancelled my subscription afterwards.

Yeah, I ended up cancelling mine as well. I felt bad, because the guy gives great service, but it’s not really worth it at the current price point. I was happy to get the newest The Rural Alberta Advantage as an exclusive (dove grey), but most others are basic black that you can find anywhere else much cheaper.

That album is so good. I have seen RAA 3 times and have The Wild on 2 different vinyl colors but not dove grey!

For recent stuff I try to order from the record company directly. They usually give pretty good service and if there's an issue with something you're dealing with them directly. Be careful with Maple Music. I've had some ok experiences with them in the past but my last order was a mess. 3.5 months with no response after order, no answer to calls or emails. Eventually I got a refund through PayPal.

Northern Volume is closing down. I'm sure we'll see good sales there over the next couple of months.

Is it just me or do the pre-orders on Amazon.ca very often go straight to "temporarily out of stock" on release day? Then you switch over to Amazon.com and its in stock as normal.

Amazon just needs to start having a "Canadian Pre-Order" where it releases 2-3 weeks after the US store/label releases an album.

/I THINK THIS THIS IS COOL/A WORD FOR WHINING

Postscript: So the above line was what happened when I put "/b!tching"!
