Oh my yes...just yes...
Another great pick, I'm psyched for this release. Reading all the content about this pick, it occurred to me...is this the first Classics by a white artist?
I wasn't quoted to respond, but I do love this album. I knew the name before this because it's so distinctive, but never listened to her. My wife calls this Grove music, its a upper middle class mall in the center of LA that ruined a perfectly nice farmer's market full of casual restaurants I used to go here when I first moved to LA. I always think its a shame that she associated this type of music with the tackiest of LA's Bourgeois.
First reason why I like this album. It's full of the great American Songbook. These songs and Lyrics are so witty and musical, current popular rarely compares.
2nd is her interpenetration/personality. She is so relaxed and conveys emotions with out overstating them. Just the right perfect subtle touch with the emphasis of a line. She rarely embellishes a note. I can see why Miles loved her.
3rd its so relaxed. You can put it one and people almost nobody will object. It will blend in the background, and next thing you know people will realize they are listening to a masterpiece.
There's more, but just listen to the album.
Listened to thos yesterday and added the classics track. This is a great album!
Still no Feb Classics guess thread up - any takers?
*reluctantly raises hand* I'll do it.
Alrighty then, here ya go!
New member and VMP classics sign up here! Must have sat on the fence on a membership for quite a while, but saw blossom dearie was the January classic, checked it out on Apple Music, fell in love instantly and signed up was unfamiliar with her music but reading through the notes and reasoning for her selection on the VMP website led me to check her out, and was sold!
Welcome! Classics is the best!
BTW, listen to Blossom's follow ups on Verve. They're all uniformly excellent. Give Him The Ooh-La-La is my personal favorite of the batch.
Received mine today...huge rip in the top seam and debris pressed into the vinyl (will be contacting CS for replacement)...and the back print looks like a poor photocopy job -- is that a thing with titles licensed from Universal Special Products? The Alice Coltrane back cover was an out-of-focus mess, too.
Mine has locked groove on side A during Comment Allez Vous.
Hmm... I want this.
This record is so good. And the pressing is killer.
Well mines a fish bowl. One of the worst I've seen... TO THE EMAIL!
This makes me so sad
There has got to be something in your delivery chain killing these records. There is no way your luck is just that consistently bad.
I don't know honestly, I'll post a pic. I've had pretty good luck over the past few shipments, but these classics are more often than not a mess, I think it's the booklets really. I wish they were on the outside of the jacket in the sleeve, rather than inside.
