“While the album is not considered Guy’s proper studio debut, and is hardly acknowledged in his multiple autobiographies or in histories of his work, *Left My Blues In San Francisco* is an important document of late-’60s blues, an alternate history to the narrative arc that has Eric Clapton and Keith Richards synthesizing delta blues for a new generation. The blues didn’t need white Monarchists to keep its traditions alive for a generation raised on Elvis and ready for guitar pyrotechnics. The blues had Buddy Guy.”

    What's in the box:
    • 180 gram black vinyl
    • Heavyweight tip on style jacket
    • Exclusive listening notes by Andrew Winistorfer (our boy @Storf)

That’s my guess too, based off of the clues so far. Would be happy with that choice.

I think this might be it... I don't see any of the compilations being reissued in the Classics series, and Chuck Berry or Howlin' Wolf seem a little too obvious... unless there's going to be a package deal of exclusive pressings to coincide with them.

And Chuck Berry isn’t really blues either.

Yeah, that's the problem we have doing LPs from Chess. There are just a handful that 1. Haven't been reissued by that fella in Detroit and 2. Aren't just singles comps rearranged in different ways. This month's ROTM is *technically* a singles comp, but this artist didn't have multiple of those released when he was on Chess.

I'm ok with a meaningful singles comp.

Old albums are just singles comps anyhow. I think there is a difference between one of those and a greatest hits comp. In reality, Mesfin and Wells Fargo are both singles comps and two of my most favorite records this club featured.

Mostly I would agree with you, but I would submit the albums “After School Session” and “Chuck Berry Is On Top” as arguments that he is working out of the blues.

I was listening to a radio interview a few weeks ago with Reverend Peyton about a similar issue. He was commenting on the evolution of blues and how some people have very hard, specific views of exactly what blues is and isn’t. For example, the segment of the population who think there hasn’t been any real blues since Charley Patton.

Not trying to start anything here, just respectfully making my case :)

Wait, what? But Left My Blues in San Francisco is a studio album. So are we getting I Was Walkin’ Through the Woods instead? <Storf thinking face emoji>

Since i try to get rid of the rest of my cds and to spice the classics guess thread up a little i would put a price out this month for the first correct guess and hint explanations. That is my 4cd introduction to chess boxset

If he is willing to, i'd put it in @Storf s disgression to decide the winner

Since we are talking compilation, I’ll make my official guess: Sonny Boy Williamson - One Way Out
