It's my understanding that Umeshu simply means plum wine, it's not a brand or specific type of plum wine. A quick Google search couldn't turn up any that were 30% ABV. I ended up using more wine as I absolutely agree it's a bit watered down with the written measurements. Still a great cocktail for summer though!

This is what I was referring to, and what I think the drink calls for.

Granted, it's been forever since I drank this, but from what I remember it has a thicker mouthfeel similar to port wines. For the sake of my own nostalgia, I will try to find this version to see if I remember correctly. Cheers!

Mitski Sour and Virgin Mitski Sour

My fiancee doesn't drink so I made a non-alcoholic version of this month's cocktail

    Mitski Sour

    4 oz plum wine
    1 oz lemon juice
    1 dash bittermens grapefruit bitters
    4 oz soda water
Garnish: lemon wheel and rosemary sprig

Combine plum wine, lemon juice, and bitters into shaker. Short shake with 3 ice cubes. Double strain into ice filled highball. Top with club soda. Garnish

    Virgin Mitski Sour

    1 oz lemon juice
    .5 oz cinnamon syrup
    6 oz grapefruit La Croix
Garnish: lemon wheel and rosemary sprig

Combine lemon juice and cinnamon syrup to an ice filled highball. Stir to mix. Top with grapefruit La Croix. Lightly stir to combine. Garnish.

The BBNG drink is the worst cocktail VMP ever did so an artist pick makes me hesitant. But trust the queen, Mitski to come through with something refreshing.

ROTM Cocktail Feist + Leisure Suite

2 oz. Aviation Gin steeped with charred oak chips
    1/2 oz. Campari
    1/2 oz. Passionfruit syrup
1/4 oz. Fresh Ruby grapefruit juice
    1 egg white

I like this one. Unfortunately I don't have coupe glasses, I bet it'd look great in one! The Stonecutter Barrel Gin, according to their website is only available in Vermont :/ so I added some charred oak chips to about a cup of Aviation Gin and let it sit a day or two. These chips I have on hand because of beer brewing or wine making. I used maybe a 1/2 teaspoons worth of chips in a cup of gin.

    Feist + Leisure Suite

2 oz Barrel Aged Gin (Koval Barrel Gin)
    .5 oz Campari
.5 oz passion fruit syrup (Small Hand Foods. I would usually make this but I was feeling lazy)
    .25 oz fresh grapefruit juice
    1 egg white

Add all ingredients except egg white into a shaker filled 2/3 of the way with ice. Shake. Reserve liquid and discard ice. Add egg white to the rest. Dry shake. Double strain into a chilled coupe.

Wow, this might be my favorite VMP cocktail ever. This drink is near perfectly balanced. Herbal, bitter, sweet, and tart with a great frothy texture. The barrel gin gives it a smooth, mellow depth. Besides this being an ad for a distillery only available in VT and MA this is an excellent cocktail. Respect to them for creating a great cocktail at least.

I knew it would look better in a coupe glass! ;)

    Cheers!

    Townes Van Zandt + 5, 6, Segue

    1 oz Rittenhouse Rye
    .5 oz Appleton Estate Rum
    .75 oz Cynar
    .5 oz Luxardo maraschino
    2 dashes Angostura bitters
garnish: crushed clove pods, maldon sea salt, orange peel

Combine ingredients into mixing glass. Stir with ice. Strain into double rocks glass with one large ice cube. Garnish with crushed cloves and sea salt on the ice cube. Express orange peel over drink.

Really great booze heavy cocktail. Reminds me of a drink in my regular rotation that's a rye + rum riff on a manhattan with a little benedictine.

Could some kind soul post the Queen cocktail when they get their package? I swapped but would still like to make the drink to go with Eddie Floyd.

Question: did you use the exact ingredients for the drink? Or did you substitute a brand of Rye or Rum that you can find locally? Also what the heck is Cynar?

The thing that annoys me with most of the recipes is that they don’t provide a comparable recipe if we can’t fork over $60 for a bottle of Rye or just can’t find certain ingredients.

I subbed and I sub ingredients for most of the cocktails. It usually just takes a little experience/know-how/googling to do it. The fauxbi calls for Wild Turkey Rye and Angostura 5 year rum but I used Rittenhouse Rye and Appleton Estate because that's what I had on hand. Wild Turkey rye and Rittenhouse are both good moderately priced bottles, but Old Overholt is a good bottom shelf option. Any dark (not spiced) rum will do.

Cynar (pronounced chee-nar) is a bitter liqueur with a big artichoke on the label, and this is where subbing can get complicated. Italian amari all have unique flavors and google can be your friend when you can't find a bottle. Cynar would be the 2nd amaro I would buy and keep in my bar after Campari though. It's widely available, delicious, and works in tons of cocktails.

So, it's basically a Kentucky Highball. Bourbon and Ale 8.

It’s non-alcoholic as written and makes a giant bowl of punch. I think someone posted it in the Mavis thread.

Or I could be completely wrong about it being in that thread and am misremembering Hazbro’s Post above.
