I purchased an audio technica LP-120 about a year ago and am using Edifier R1280 speakers. About 6 months ago I noticed that excessive white noise would come out of the right channel whenever I play many records (but not all), which is not the case when I play audio from my computer via the speakers. Any suggestions on where to start looking?

    Couple things to try:

Check to be sure your cartridge is aligned and leveled, and that all of the tonearm wire connectors to the cartridge are seated properly and in good condition (wires aren’t broken/frayed/etc).

Swap your right and left RCA inputs and see if the noise swaps sides. That will tell you if your problem is at the turntable or the amp.

yeah, I switched the RCA inputs and the wiring, but the noise does not swap sides. I assume I am looking at a turntable problem - has anyone heard of this type of problem coming from a turntable before?

I have not. I suspect something in the phono preamp has gone south- intermittently.
