Ok, it's time to find out what the final VMP forums AOTY list looks like. Here are the rules
    • List all the albums you think deserve recognition from 2018
    • You may give albums more then 1 point
    • 20 point maximum per album.
    • You have a total of 100 points to spend on your list
    • If a person gives an album more then 20 points, it will only be counted as 20 points
    • All votes will be calculated on January 1st and be put into a final year end Best of List
    • 1 list per member
Any questions or concerns let me know.

If you want to check out past years, here they are:

This weekend is my arbitrary cut-off for any further 2018 releases being added to my collection to give me some chance of being able to create a list.

I’ll be back on 31st December! It kinda irks me to see these lists be published in magazines/newspapers earlier and earlier every year.

Also the anarchy of picking my own points rather than 1-10 getting 10-1 is messing with my crazy!

I agree with @JoeMac7 about these lists getting published earlier!

Black Messiah by D’Angelo & The Vanguard was released mid December and websites like Pitchfork had to place them in their ‘2015’ list. But it feels weird, and it affects the ranking I feel as it was released so long ago. Pitchfork placed that album at #7 but I bet you if we look at their decade-end list for 2010-2019, it will be in the top 30, instead of being placed around #60-#80.

Grimes just released what I think is one of the best singles of the year. I have a feeling she could be dropping a masterpiece in the upcoming weeks! So yeah, I’m definitely the type that would do my list after December 31st!

Oh well, I’m too excited though so I might as well play this game now :giggle:

Kali Uchis - Isolation (20 points)
    SOPHIE - Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides (20 points)
Kids See Ghost - Kids See Ghost (20 points)
Rosalía - El Mal Querer (20 points)
Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs (20 points)

I want to give my favourite albums the most points because I want to see them end up in the VMP list! I really want to give 20 points as well to A.A.L (Against All Logic) - 2012-2017 !!!

You’re driving me crazy @Woob_woob :sneaky:

    Noname - Room 25 (15)

Sons of Kemet - Your Queen is a Reptile (10)
    Melaní Luraschi - Lumbral (8)
    Pusha T - Daytona (7)
Kamasi Washington - Heaven and Earth (7)
Kids See Ghosts - Kids See Ghosts (5)
    Serpentwithfeet - Soil (5)
    Kali Uchis - Isolation (4)

I already love this list! Noname’s “Room 25” is my 7th favourite and Sons of Kemet’s “Your Queen is a Reptile” is my 8th favourite !

You have Rosalía, Kali Uchis & Kids See Ghost in there and they are honestly my 3 favourites of 2018!

I really do like Earl Sweatshirt’s new album though. I think it could knock out Rosalía from my personal top 3! I’ve heard that album twice and am just blown away! Right now, Earl Sweatshirt is #4

Agreement here too, last year someone asked me my favorite track of the year sometime around December 10th, couldn't answer because two of my most anticipated albums hadn't even been released.
I'm not really a fan of how Triple J handles the eligible release period for Hottest 100 votes either. They count down the best songs released December 1st - November 30th (Rather than just Jan 1st - Dec 31st) so that the voting period can be extra long and they can still have the countdown early on in the next year, at the sacrifice of including songs released only in the year they're meant to be counting down. For example, the singles from 'Awaken, My Love!' made it into the 2016 countdown, but then the album only tracks made it into the 2017 countdown.

    Absolutely, Childish Gambino is another.

I mean we’re offically in December now. Even I, with my voracious appetite for music, don’t feel like I can fully digest anything in time for a year end list in the last 30 Days and if you take the time to wait till February (which still isn’t really fair to the November and December albums), no one cares anymore.

Usually I put more thought into this, but whatever. This year of music was weird for me. No big standouts, but lots of things I simply enjoyed.

Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour - 20 points
Janelle Monae - Dirty Computer - 20 points
    Pusha T - Daytona - 20 points
Liza Anne - Fine But Dying - 20 points
