How is there not a thread dedicated to one of the most polarizing artists of the last 20 years.

    What's everyone's thoughts on Kanye?

His team of co-writers seem to do a great job!

He's a guy who's sort of an ego maniac but also possess true genius. I think some folks despise him because of how outspoken he is. Some folks just don't like him because, well, racism and what not.

When Pitchfork and the like is busy compiling their best of the decade list, I'll be shocked if My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy isn't on top of that list, where it belongs. Unless they have 2010 looped in with the last decade?

Definitely a fan of his music, but CAN'T STAND to hear him talk or see him on TV

Personally I think he's the greatest main stream artist of the last 20 years.

By and large I like his musical output. On the personal side, sometimes I think he exhibits genuinely jerk-y behavior. Other times, I think some of it is him operating with tongue firmly in cheek, or just being a bit of a shit-stirrer. Yesterday, I was on the treadmill and "Stonger" popped up on my shuffle. I thought, "You know, as good as Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" is, I'd rather hear "Stronger" pretty much any day of the week. I think "Graduation" is a really strong album, and, if my mood is right (or possibly wrong, now that I think about it), "808's And Heartbreak" is also a personal favorite. I typically don't love the auto-tune singing, but it kind of gives that album the detached, cold feeling the music and lyrics require. The consensus is that "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" is his masterwork to this point. I think the highs of that record are extremely high, but I've always felt it had some filler tracks that weighed it down. That's just me though.

Idk I mean I dont have any strong feelings for him either way, and MBDTF is probably the greatest concept album of all time, I think he has talent, I just think its strange that he's still being praised as a lyrical genius when most of his stuff isn't even his anymore.

So you're on the Meek Mill side of the Drake/Meek Mill beef?

Agreeable list. 1 & 2 are interchangeable to me. Essentially, I like them all. Yeezus is on a different level and comparable to 808s and Heartbreak and I'd probably just pull them out of this list completely because I don't know how to rank them. Graduation and Late Registration are somewhat equal in my eyes. I disliked Watch the Throne at first, but revisited it recently and was surprised at how well it seemed to have aged (the sample on Otis still kind of annoys me).

No, because Meek is saying Drake uses ghostwriters or whatever and Drake credits his writers who get proper artistic and monetary compensation for their work.

Ghostwriters and co-writers are two completely different issues and I'm kinda tired of people not knowing the difference

Kanye credits and compensates the people that work with him as well. The list of people credited on a song like All of The Lights, or the new song All Day are about a page long

Wow. Pretty much spot on. Switch 5 and 6. Switch 2 and 3 maybe? More like 2a and 2b. Some true hip-hop heads aren't a fan of 'Graduation' but I enjoy the album a lot. @Melt Face Molly Drop is right about Yeezus. It really is a strange album, probably artistically better than 'Graduation' or 'College Dropout' but I enjoy those two albums more.

At the time of it's release 808s was the only Kanye album I ever called bad. It grows on me every year though

If you can separate the music from the person then I think you one would have a great chance of enjoying his musical output. I'm alternately a fan/not a fan depending on the day or my mood.

Honestly, I think he is one of the best producers of all-time, and a damn better rapper than J-Dilla, Premiere, or El-P.

Which begs the question... Kanye or RZA?
