    Clues

“probably the most esoteric, weird, free jazz title we've ever done across any program at VMP slated for next year. ”
    https://forum.vinylmeplease.com/index.php?threads/storf-november-rotm-ama.9861/#post-681668

Free Jazz. OG's very rare and expensive.
    https://forum.vinylmeplease.com/index.php?threads/vmp-classics.4606/page-421#post-733901

Working with Egon from Now-Again Records. @Storf doesn't think we'll guess it.

Possibly originally Private Press/Self-Released based solely on @Storf liking this question.

OG label was so small, to reveal it would probably give the artist away

So, we guessed it in the list below but, which one?

Thanks for setting this up @Mr Moore !

How about Julius Hemphill - Dogon A.D.

Free Jazz. Rare (only 59 people have an OG copy on discogs). Expensive (Median £157.70 and only 2 for sale starting at £228).

A couple of 60's offerings to chew over:

Sonny Murray - Sonny's Time Now (features Don Cherry & Albert Ayler)

Completely unrelated to these clues but I would love VMP to reissue some of the Sweden era Don Cherry stuff from the early 70s. The fact that it's from Now-Again would mean I will probably never guess this but will love it anyway.

I saw this after scanning Egon’s Twitter page. The album sounds awesome and it was one of Bernie Grundman’s first mastering credits while he was working at Contemporary. Bobby Hutcherson is on vibes. Would be a really cool Classics record.

The Peter Brotzmann Octet - Machine Gun

Issued on Peter Brotzmann’s own label in the 60s - with an initial private release that included hand-drawn covers - the only setback is that this was just reissued very recently by CIEN FUEGOS (and it sounds great), and this is a bit of a left-turn from Egon’s usual label offerings. Still, this is an amazing album and I hope VMP gets this to a wider audience.

    Warning: it’s quite loud.

lol this would set the forum on flames!!

I went to see him this previous summer in LA. It was amazing, but not for everyone. There was only one person on the forum that was as excited as I was to see him.

I’m sure there are plenty of people outside of VMP who’d def get their hands on this, but yeah that would be interesting to see!

Who was he playing with? I’m seeing him in April at Roadburn where he’ll be performing with Black Bombaim.

The sleeve was even silkscreened manually! Quality pressing. The album’s production quality wasn’t even great to begin with, but this was cut loud on dead quiet vinyl.

Yeah the Cien Fuegos reissue sounds fantastic! This album is insane and everyone needs to listen to the whole thing at least once. Super heavy but can still swing.

Hiiighly doubt this will be it though since this album is essentially the landmark album for European free jazz, whereas the album we are getting will probably be way more obscure.

Sold! I was looking for something to put me over the threshold for free delivery with a couple of other records and this fits the bill nicely, cheers.
