I’m not really sure how this could happen to some and not others, unless the hole is punched after the fact. It’s off enough that there’s an audible shift in balance for the last few songs of each side.

Good pick. Good music. Nice pressing. I like the color. The package as a whole is a bit light. Have come to expect more from an AoTM.

Just gave mine a first listen and side B is really bad. Sounds terrible!

My Mavis Staples is centered and sounds fantastic. A little noise between tracks 1 & 2 and 2 & 3 on side 1 but nothing bad. Record is a little edge warped but within my tolerable limits (i.e. I might throw it in the Vinyl Flat eventually but no rush).

Glad (in a way) that it’s not just me. I reached out to CS but haven’t heard back.

    Here’s a video

My copy looks great and sounds great. That's two in a row that I've gotten lucky, I guess.

Both this and my ANOTA sound and look fantastic. Not off center, no groove distortion, no warps. Couldn't be happier!

Oh, and my copy of Slowdive's Pygmalion seems to be pristine, as well.

Oh man, side 2 - needle is swaying back and forth like the video above. Not great.

I started digging around last night on ways to correct this and there are some methods in this thread that I might try.

Enjoying this pick and have listened multiple times. Would never have selected it on my own, so I'm glad it was curated for me. The presentation is excellent and a reminder of why a subscription service like this can really work.

My record is quiet and plays perfectly. And wow, that arrangement of a house is not a home is just sublime.

It’s the same for me as well. Side 1 is perfect, but side 2 sways back and forth even though the record is a pretty flat/tiny bit warped.

Does the swaying of the needle back and forth affect the sound though? What’s the issue with the needle swaying (even though the record isn’t warped). It sounded good to my ears!

I’m thinking a clamp would fix this, but my Rega 3 turntable isn’t made to have a clamp on it. If you put a clamp on it, it is likely to damage the turntable/record in some way.

The swaying back and forth will wear the record down much faster and also your stylus. It can also affect sound, in my case on the last track there were a couple hits of distortion that I'm guessing came from that swaying motion. The hardest part of a record for your needle to track are the inner grooves on each side, so the last couple songs on each side... With that needle swaying back and forth it makes it even more difficult, and more likely to get tracking errors.

It degrades the sound significantly for me. I think the technical term is wow, but it’s most noticeable in sustained tones: the sound warbles. A clamp would only fix it if you file the spindle hole enough to get the side centered again. Finally, the back and forth puts stress on the cantilever and could cause even wear on the stylus.

This is really good to know. I think I have heard a bit of distortion on some of the vinyl I play but never knew what it was (because I always cleaned the vinyl well), but it’s good to know that the stylus moving back and forth could be one reason. Whenever I hear distortion on a record, I’ll see if my stylus on the record is swaying back and forth or not!

I’ll be asking to get this Mavis Staples replaced because I love this record, and don’t want to settle for a copy that’s a little bit defected. If it was another vinyl like Phantastic Ferniture for example, I wouldn’t bother. But this Mavis Staples record is incredible and is one of my favourite VMP records I own! :)

Rega 3 are definitely made to have clamps. It won't negatively affect anything .I have a Mitchell clamp (specifically made for Regas) and works great.
