I guess I'll stick with my guess from the Classics thread:

Jimmy Rogers (w/ Little Walter and Muddy Waters) - Chicago Bound?
(Had a repress in Italy in 2017, but that labels seems sketchy and there's no North American release readily available.)

Billy Dee starred opposite Diana Ross in two movies, but I think Storf mentioned that he hasn't gotten to Motown yet.

But one of those movies was Lady Sings the Blues, the Billie Holiday biopic. Her most popular album is already on vinyl, and most of her classic stuff predates albums.

So my guess is Billie Holiday- The Commodore Master Takes, a/k/a Twelve (Sixteen) of Her Greatest Interpretations.

Hell, if it was just a replica of the Strange Fruit/Fine and Mellow single, I'd still be happy.

But then again, I have no idea what the hell "David Billy Dee Williams" is supposed to mean.

If VMP is doing Mavis Staples in Essentials, I'm doubtful they would do another female soul/blues singer in the same month in Classics. Particularly an artist who is bigger, like Billie Holiday or Diana Ross. I would think that would take some shine off their Essentials pick.

Edit: Although, they did Snoop in R&HH the same month as Clipse, so maybe my theory doesn't hold water.

But combined with the fact that we had soul and jazz recently in classics, i would agree that a blues record for dec classics ois more likely

It's just a feeling but I also think we're due for a Blues album.

Why wouldn’t the actual Lady Sings the Blues album work? Seems reasonable coming out in ‘56 and seems to be well regarded.

Billie Holiday is a blind spot for me... I really need to listen to more of her stuff.

Edit: Need to clarify that I am talking about the album from Billie Holiday called Lady Sings the Blues and not the soundtrack album from the movie featuring Billy Dee Williams.

Billy Dee Williams was in a movie called Nighthawks. Tom Waits - Nighthawks at the Diner was released by Asylum Records in 1975. That is my guess. Such a great album. I already own it but it would be a solid pick for classics.

Nighthawks is a great album, and that's an interesting connection, but it was in the store this year, so I'm going to say it's pretty unlikely.

Edit: I do wonder if someone like Tom Waits would fit Classics. I'd say yes, but @Storf is the final arbiter. And all the Asylum albums just got reissued and everything else is post-1980.

Nice use of a Lando quote in the title. Didn't realize it at first, but it's much appreciated.

I'd imagine(hope) that if/when they do Tom Waits it would be Bone Machine which is the hardest/rarest to get.

Id have a meltdown if they secured a Waits album for a ROTM. Seriously though, wouldn't it more likely to be reserved for the Essentials than Classics if the situation ever came up?

Definitely! Tom Waits would not be a Classics ROTM. Tom Waits would be an Essentials ROTM :)

Anything from The Commodore era would be greatly appreciated. It's very underrepresented. I think they might be among her finest recordings (I really do love the vast majority of her Verve material, even if she seemingly lost more and more of her voice as her tenure there continued).
