Strangely enough, I think my fave Crash test Dummies song is "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead" from the Dumb And Dumber soundtrack (which is actually pretty damn good).

I like that your favorite is an XTC cover.

I remember that song in the movie, but did not know it was a cover. I did not pick up on that. Love that song and album!

That XTC song got a lot of radio play where I was when it came out and while I had been casually familiar with XTC at the time, it’s what prompted me to dig deeper into the group. CTD did a great job with it.

The XTC video was on MTV all the time too ... I always thought it was weird that Crash Test Dummies covered it within a couple of years of the original being released

Maybe the movie folks wanted to use it and XTC said no?

I can't 100% speak to the coverage it had on MuchMusic up here, as it JUST pre-dated me getting super into watching MM constantly.

Something tells me that the soundtrack people planned the thing to be a lot of covers. There is a ton of covers on the rest of the soundtrack: The Primitives doing Smokey Robinson's "Get Ready", Butthole Surfers doing Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man", Deee-Lite doing Hot Chocolate's "You Sexy Thing".

@Storf Any chance the store will get some copies of the Suspiria Unreleased tracks? Or the Ikarie XB-1 soundtrack?

How about a surprise Dandy Warhols exclusive?

Yeah, he started in the mid-90s. He's a little older than me, but Dan is from Vancouver/went to UBC, and I am from Vancouver/went to UBC, so I saw some early shows he played. But you are probably right, Destroyer didn't gain national attention until 2000 with Thief, so he probably shouldn't be lumped in with the other mid-90s Can-Con acts.

Never met him, but by all accounts Matthew Good is a dick. BUT Last of the Ghetto Astronauts was the soundtrack album of my floor in Res my first year. Whenever I hear any of the songs from it, I can visualize my friends from that time. And I think we saw them a dozen times from 1996 - 1998.

Yeah, they are good people. I have held up a sweaty crowd surfing Nardwuar many times. I also had to interview Trail of Dead right after he just did a bit with them for Much Music one time. My questions must've been so disappointing after he chased them around the venue. So it goes.

Great band that we will never speak of again, because Jian Ghomeshi is a creep.

I don't have the Way Out West box, I have an OJC copy.

The music is great. I'm sure the box is great as I like the other Craft reissues I have. Pretty expensive though. If it ever turned up as a Swap, I'd probably pull the trigger.

I mean....fair enough, but Nardwuar is an interviewing legend. I still remember the one he did with Pharrell in the N.E.R.D. days. Skateboard P was flabbergasted at the vinyl Nardwuar was pulling out.

    My kind of people :)
I remember being on a high school band trip (from Connecticut) and seeing Sloan play from a balcony in the middle of the day. Does it get cooler?

Speaking of Sloan, anyone remember a band from Halifax called Jale?

I'll take The Flashing Lights to block. Although might have been a bit later.
