I open this thread with a reminder that record stores are still the best places to buy records because, well, small business is a good thing and yadayada. We know how that goes. Sifting and searching for a record is great. Great for music discovery which is one of the reasons that we all subscribe to VMP after all. Buy records through VMP too. Especially their monthly supplements because they're well-priced.

That being said, Amazon sure has some awesome deals on albums. I picked up a copy of Kenny Burrell and John Coltrane for 7.99 the other day. These seem to be flash deals. I also picked up a Jimmy Smith album for 7.99. It was one of the Blue Note reissues that are usually of high quality for the pricing.

They're not always in stock but you can still place an order and lock in the price.

    Anyhow, let's kick this off:

There are so many affordable Coltrane Impulse-era albums that it's mind-boggling. I could dedicate an entire thread to that.

How do you find the deals on Amazon? Do you get alerts or are these on your wish list?

I sift through the site. They have filters that allow you to check for certain items by price and what not. Just toy around with the search parameters a bit.

Amazon Warehouse Deals also has some great steals on a wider variety, usually stuff people buy and use the DL codes from and then return them...

Every once in a while you'll get a record in terrible condition though, but their customer service is top notch so it's never a problem.

I don't want be a dick, but I would be remiss if the evilness of Amazon went unmentioned. Now I'm as guilty as the next guy or gal, but may we all strive to spend more money at our local record store and less at Amazon.

I haven't had any evil experiences with Amazon, as of yet. I will say most record stores I've been to have workers who aren't too helpful and it's a mess trying to go through and find something worthwhile. I do enjoy going to record stores but their margins on vinyl are sometimes ridiculous whereas I can buy on Amazon, get free shipping, and have it here within a week. If it's broken or bent, I just send it back for a replacement.

I'm all about local business but I'm more about "me" and dollars left in my wallet at the end of the day.

I do try to "support local businesses" and buy records from my local record stores but like he said above, the employees are awful and really rude and just sit on their phones and almost refuse to help and the prices are usually way marked up... When I can get Hozier's new album for $20 on Amazon with free 2-day shipping rather than $30 from my local store, hell yea I'm going to. Usually it's not that extreme though, like maybe a dollar difference in which case I'll buy locally.

I know that it's a vicious cycle and that's the "evil" of Amazon is that it does this so local businesses can't compete but like... I'm going to buy whichever is cheapest.
