I stream some Spotify at work, but usually every day/night I sleep I have something "ambient" playing.

I actually find Spotify to be irritating and clunky. Shrug

I feel like I must have fallen asleep listening to Eddie Floyd every night as I dont recall listening to him that much but they're not that likely to be wrong, right?

No doubt about it though, that damn Alessia Cara song pushes all my buttons even if its a bit schmalzy and interestingly my favourite of last year makes this year's list as well. Think you can also tell that I wasn't using Spotify past the first 3 months and the last 3 months of the year!

Does anyone know exactly what the "top 100" list consists of? I mean, I listened to probably 5 or 6 full albums waaaaay more than some of these individual songs. The fact that this playlist isn't like, wall to wall Phoebe Bridgers, Haley Heynderickx, Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Billy Bragg is pretty suspect, given my mood this year.

also the fact that my taste breakers for the first 3 artists were psychedelic and weird japanese artists says enough about me

It's not your actual top 100. My last.fm shows that my true 100 songs would have every song from God's Favorite Customer, Daytona, Ye, and KSG, as those are my top songs of the year. To avoid being redundant, the top 100 playlist seems to only include 2-3 songs per artist at the most.

Yeah, I figured. The year-end Spotify list always chooses to feature at least one song I don't remember hearing more than once, and feel vaguely lukewarm towards--I mean, besides the ones I know my husband or kid listened to a bunch.

Yeah. Me too. There are always a couple that I doubt I've played more than once or twice.

I'm not sure why that happens.

58 hours of Janelle. I also decided to revisit the xx (mostly the first album) and I guess I’m still obsessed.

The Tastebreaker playlist has some songs/artists in it that I have listened to before as well.

I do love Sleep Well Beast. Unlike many I found the brevity of Ye and surrounding releases refreshingly punchy and concise. I often flicked Ye on when riding my bike and not wanting to get too involved in a listening decision... And Laurie Anderson and the Kronos Quartet was a joint release so should really count as one artist but I certainly listened to that album a lot and still do occasionally :)

I'm mostly actively listening maybe that's why my top 100 are old-ish (not from 2018).
