Sup sup sup sup: It's me, Storf. It's Not Beck, etc.

In case you're not familiar, I'm the Head of Editorial and Classics A&R at VMP, which means I'm responsible for everything written on our website, and in and on our packages (I've written like 80% of the OBIs fyi). But perhaps most important for you is that I am--as of this month--the person running point on Classics. If you like it, it's because of me. If you hate it, it's because of you. Just kidding.

Anyways, back in the 2017 and earlier days, I used to "pull up a chair" to talk about our ROTM, since I'm on the small team at VMP picking all of them. This month, you can blame me for both Mavis Staples and Muddy Waters.

Anyways, I'm here to pull up a chair. Ask me any question you want to know about our ROTM for November, or about how I'm picking the Classics albums in general. I'll be on around noon CST for at least an hour to answer any questions, so start firing away below.

In the mean time, check out the monthly articles we've got for y'all to add some context to our ROTM:

I thought you said we weren't getting the carter 3

You said it on Twitter and to my face when I predicted it at the beginning of the year

I haven't gotten all 3 tracks since sometime around January or so. This month is different. I'll get all 3, plus the exclusives that just dropped.

Old School Cash Money albums will do that to me :D

Did you consider other Muddy Waters releases? Was there anything in particular that led you to zone in on Fathers and Sons?

Love the Mavis and Muddy picks. Great work.

Mavis feels like the cherry on top of all the great Stax releases you have been championing for a while now, and you've already said that Classics will focus less on Stax this coming year. Can you give us any more info on where the Soul titles will be coming from in 2019?

Hi, my answer is that the best guess was 500 Degreez yesterday.

    Thanks for writing in!

Also! I see there are a couple different versions of Fathers and Sons that were released over the years with different tracklists.

How many songs does the VMP Classics version contain?

We didn't book Tha Carter 3 when you asked me. We lined up the Cash Money stuff in around September.

"Not a question, more of a comment"

First month I'm getting Essentials since tracks were introduced.

I wasn't aware that Muddy was the Classics frontrunner, and I just ordered Electric Mud through TMR's Cyber Monday sale yesterday, so that's looking like a better and better decision all the time.

Yeah it wasn't though. All the talk was about the Carter III until you straight up denied it.

Perhaps he was going with the Best Guess as noted on the first page. Yesterday afternoon it was 500 Degreez.

Tha Carter III is a good album. Like Father Like Son is decidedly a not good album. I’m glad we’re getting the former even though we were expecting the latter. Also funny that we were expecting “Like Father Like Son” by Wayne and Birdman for R&HH, and we got “Fathers and Sons” (an album that is hitting the sweet spot in my soul right now) for Classics. I choose to believe you master-minded that whole thang

If they were pulling the Chess masters, I’d think the original 1969 US version (also a 2xLP).
