As far as I can tell, I think Tone Poet gets the exact same treatment as MM. Both are overseen by Joe Harley mastered by Kevin Gray from the original tapes using all analogue and the vinyl is pressed at RTI with the exact style of jackets and inner photos.

Yes. Joe Harley is active on the SH forum and has verified this. One title though was originally recorded digitally, so that is the only one not AAA.

Nice! You're going to enjoy it!

I really enjoy the Music Matters series, but after several titles from similar artists it's a little fatiguing, monotonous, and financially overwhelming. Similar to Music Matters, there's plenty of Blue Note warhorses with sessions from the late fifties through the mid sixties in the Tone Poet series (from Shorter, Henderson, Morgan, Mobley, Green, etcetera), but there's also a higher chance to get new artists(i.e. first TP titles announced include Chick Corea & Gil Evans) and all of it will be getting audiophile treatment for the first time. I am way more excited for the Tone Poets than the Music Matters SRX titles given the increase in variety and lower prices!

Thanks for asking this. I'm looking to start getting some more Blue Notes but didn't quite know where to go first (and don't want to totally break the bank). I don't know that I'll ever have a system worthy of MM or AP pressings so I'd probably be content with the quality of these. Some of these are my favorite jazz albums/artists so I'm going to be on the lookout for these.

Yeah the Joe Henderson one was digitally recorded but supposedly is one of the best sounding ones in the whole series (I think Joe said this in the SH forums if I’m not mistaken). That’s one of the releases I’m most excited to pick up too.

I am on the same boat. I am not sure I have the ears or will ever have a system to really enjoy a MM record. These Tone Poet releases or even WallenBinks though seems to be as good as the MM but half the price.

I just bought Tone Poets Shorter and Rivers for $37 and $30 CAD respectively, from what I'm hearing about these I couldn't pass up those prices.

EDIT- Also Corea started at that price here in Canada for pre order and is now listed at $57 so... yeah, kinda had to do this now before they jump up.

European friends, the pre-order price for Sam Rivers is particularly inexpensive at Amazon.fr at the moment. €22+shipping

Preorder for Wayne Shorter's "Etcetera" has gone up $3-4 from what I can tell.

Idk but I really think you’ll be able to tell the difference no matter what sort of system you have short of an all-in-one Crosby type of deal with built in speakers or something. My system is $500 tops with the AT LP120, an old Sony receiver from the late 70’s and entry level polk tower speakers. By no means is it an audiophile setup but the MM, AP and Tone Poet records I have are usually leaps and bounds better than terrible presses of the same record.

Blue Note have their 'Review' series. Vol 2 is really good, very high quality and all sounds perfect. This isn't that regular of a service though, they seem to wait until it sells out before announcing the next one.

Just wanted to stop by and confirm what others have said: The music on Etcetera is amazing, and the pressing/packaging does this record absolute justice. I just finished my first spin and I am instantly reminded why Wayne Shorter is my favorite sax player ever.
