Mine arrives soon thanks for the info.
I ordered mine a day late and $10 over original price, but I'm STILL looking forward to it!
That's odd. It's $45 everywhere else. I wonder whether BN has a pricing error, because if not, then it definitely makes sense to get it from BN directly.
Update: After a second spin, Im starting to reconsider Juju's spot as my favorite Shorter album as a leader. I mean... Juju is better, but the nocturnal quality of these compositions on Etcetera is exactly my cup of tea.
I played JuJu last night and remembered how amazing it is. Cant wait for Etcetera to come anyway, but for now my copy of Chick Corea arrived yesterday so I will put aside some time tonight to give it a proper listen.
FYI - Music Matters is offering John Coltrane's Blue Train on SRX - https://www.musicmattersjazz.com/John-Coltrane-Blue-Train-Blue-Note-Vinyl-Reissue-p/33blp-1577.htm
$75 in black and $120 in blue? Man my wallet would feel black and blue after that.
My Etcetera arrived today. Seal was open and plastic was bunched up (leaving a crease across the hype sticker).
seal was opened on mine too but the sticker was fine
That’s absolutely crazy. I missed out on the original run of Blue Train and it’s in my top 5 favorite albums of all time but I don’t know if I can justify $75 for a single LP. Even if it does sound amazing.
No one would fault you for like one more than the other. It’s Wayne Shorter!
$75 is worth it.
You all weren’t lying... this Etcetera is
I don’t know. I’m going to have to spin my copy and think. I’m pretty sure I won’t go for the blue vinyl as that’s just a play to the collectors/memorabilia market. I refuse to buy vinyl that I won’t spin, and I’d be too worried about “losing value” with it open and played. It’s my favorite Coltrane album, but ... still ... $75 for one LP, new...
I hear ya man. It’s always subjective. For me, worth it. Others maybe not. Do what’s best for you.
I hear this SRX Blue Train is going to be limited to 500 copies. Does this sway you a bit?
I don't see it sounding better enough than the MM33 release given the comments comparing other titles. I'll pass on this one...but if they have any more copies on license for HH's Inventions & Dimensions I'm in!
blue one is sold out, just checked
The blue version came and went a long time ago, and the currently available black vinyl using SRX formula is what's limited to 500 copies. SRX is supposed to be a new magical formula that allows for a quieter vinyl surface.
Since I already have the Music Matters' 33 1/3 rpm Blue Train that used the same mastering, I will finally be able to compare the two version and see if SRX is indeed magical. (All others using it have new mastering, even though they were previously released in the 45 rpm series.)
okay, I misunderstood, I thought the blue and black were new SRX pressings, I ordered the black one and a few other titles to get free shipping
So I spun my copy ... and now my wallet is $85 lighter. Bloody shipping.
