I’ve resisted starting this thread for a long time but my anticipation for today’s delivery of the standard editions of Mixed Up and Torn Down is too great. I must have a place to discuss the new remixes. And a place to drop in general Cure musings and news. Because the Cure is awesome. I love them so much. And you should, too.

    So fly your Cure freak-flag!

Cure remixes are a fun lot. Some are good, others make me wonder what the hell is going on, but I always enjoy hearing a new take.

This guy has done a lot of mixing for the band. And I have no idea why his remix of Prayers for Rain isn’t on Torn Down bc it’s pretty stickying pudding fantastic. Click the link then click on Prayers for Rain.

The Head on the Door and Kiss Me are still my 1 and 2. Mostly because they bring back memories from my younger years. There's a local cover band here called Re-Cure. They're playing again this weekend actually. They would blow your mind they're so good.

Weird timing. Was rearranging the music bunker last night and uncovered this artifact.

Find it and the thread will come...

Hey @mcherry is your order from Amazon by chance? My pre-order for the two double albums is still at "Not Yet Shipped" with no delivery estimate and the listing on Amazon.ca is now "Temporarily Out of Stock" for Mixed Up and "2-4 weeks" for Torn Down... I was really looking forward to having them this weekend!! :(

Yes, amazon. My account says they’re out for delivery but give a no later time of 9pm which means it’s one of their drivers who are usually late, if they deliver at all. I’m cautiously optimistic but if it’s an early morning on the stoop drop-off I’ll be pissed because of all the rain and humidity.

Where would the Japanese Whispers EP slot in your ranking?

That’s hard, it being a small collection of singles and their related b-sides makes it hard for me to judge against a full-length. Especially since before I bought it I had already listened to the cassette version of Standing on a Beach a gazillion times (it has all the a-sides on one side and b-sides on the other), making Japanese Whispers more like a completionist artifact.

    Grrr. You’ve stumped me, lol.

But I forgot about Lament. That made JW worth it. The Dream and The Upstairs Room are ok.

After thinking about it some more in just terms of preferred playing, I’d put JW last. For my previously stated reasons but also because I just like all their studio albums better. Phew! I feel better.

The RSD Mixed Up and Torn Down I picked up sounded incredible. Great thread topic.

Love The Cure with a passion. kiss me kiss me kiss me was my first foray into the cure back in high school. I of course bought both picture disk RSD LP’s The Cure greatest hits which I already owned on CD and the acoustic version. I gotta play the acoustic one one of these days.

I still haven’t grabbed any of the newer releases such as the acoustic or the remixes. Are they any good? I’m afraid to go down that rabbit hole #vinyldiet

Imo the acoustic is for the completionist. 2005 recordings which are ok versions of these great songs but they were originally added as an extra disc in the orig cd release. Meh.

Mixed Up on the other hand is a 1990 classic. It was the reason for Never Enough and the mixed up version of Close to Me that dominated alternative radio at the time. Not all the remixes hold up but it is still a great listen.

I have not heard Torn Down yet but I consider it essential as well.
