I did a thing so I figured I should do this thing as a Technics catch-all thread.
<---- waits for pics
Jeebus dude. So jelly.
I have a feeling this might quickly become the largest clubhouse. Excited to hear your thoughts!
Ooooh!! Which one of the 4 things did you do?
The 1200G thing.
Niiiiiice!!! Thats a damn fine thing!!
That's a beautiful system you've built.
My dad has a couple of Technics TTs. Does that count?
Belt-drive or die!
Honestly though, congrats on your new system.
Excuse me while I tarnish your shiny, new, modern-day Technics thread with a low budget tale of vintage Technics glory.
I assembled my first real audio system over the course of a few Christmas gifts and summer jobs.
When I was 14 I hit the grass cutting circuit during the summer and saved enough jack to buy a pair of Advent loudspeakers. They lay in wait until Christmas when good ol' Santa dropped off a Marantz 2235B receiver (which I still own) and my first legit audio system was birthed.
I had the high fidelity receiver/loudspeaker goods. Next up - adding the ability to play some stuff of my own. The summer of my 15th year I pushed the mower like a mofo and pulled down the cash to snag a Marantz cassette deck and a (angelic harmonies) Technics SL-Q303 quartz locked direct drive turntable.
I still have the 2235B receiver and use it occasionally. The Marantz cassette deck and the Advent loudspeakers are long gone. Wish they were still here for no other reason than the attached nostalgia.
But the Technics SL-Q303 turntable - it's an indelible part of me. I haven't played a record on any other turntable since I acquired it in the summer of 1976.
Cartridges have come and gone but this turntable has given me outstanding service for 42 years. That's right - 42 years! I'm a vintage listener with equally vintage equipment. I know there are countless better setups available out there. At the same time I currently have it paired with a modest Shure M97xe cartridge and my old, haggard ears have no qualms.
@blujay - I hope you get the same quality/longevity/enjoyment out of your Technics turntable experience as I have.
Now I wanna know how many summers of mowed lawns @blujay’s equates to....
That’s my favorite mathematical sum. Lol.
Ok. Here's one- @Blujays system is twice the amount of lawns as mine and fifty times the lawns as yours.
I think @Yer Ol' Uncle D might be onto something. I'm going to start converting expenditures to a new currency called "lawn". It makes things sound less expensive.
@blujay 's new turntable is only 133.33 lawn. Think I'll get 2!
Pictures work well for a simpleton like me, so using @HiFi Guy's complex formula I deduced this
To be fair to Lee, his record collection is as many lawns as my system.
