Get some hours on it. It gets better. Which cable did you buy?
I've gotten some more hours on the Pangea phono cables and cannot stress how good they are.
Just ordered two AC14SE’s (one for MoFi the other for my Marantz DAC) and a set of the Pangea Phono cables. Let’s see what this phono cable is all about!
Next payday we'll wrap up our cable journey with the coupon "Next purchase" UA coupon I got
Picked up an AC14SE. It was probably dumb of me not to do a direct before-and-after listen to try and minimize placebo, but...I’m not displeased thus far. Speaking as a skeptic.
I get it. But there's no placebo. How do I know? My wife asked why the system suddenly sounded better.
Yeah, I get the mentality from my dad. He’s a nuclear physicist and the exact sort of ‘data or gtfo’ personality you might expect.
I will say that it does, subjectively, sound different, and for the better. But I can’t rule out all the variables.
Interesting observation- I've got a pair of Mullard CV4003 tubes (old British military 12AU7 equivalent). They run around $99 each, so not cheap. I pulled them from the Rogue Pharoah when I had it- one was getting a little noisy- easily heard on headphones.
I popped them in the input tube spots on my PrimaLuna this morning- I got the itch to experiment. I found I far prefer the Electroharmonix 12AU7- a cheap and cheerful $12 tube.
I'm not a fan of Chinese tubes in general- with the exception of some upper level $$$ tubes. The Electroharmonix tubes replacing all the small tubes in the PL actually make the Chinese EL34 output tubes sound damn good.
So we’ve had a delivery...
That looks a little something like...
Now they just need to manufacture a 20/20 compliant model!
GLs in situ!
I think that’s more of an adaptor or a linear power supply than just a cable though!
Did you have to set the bias or are those self biasing? Not super familiar with Quad amps.
Those are nice looking amps!!
The blurb says it has a cathode auto bias output. Does that make sense?
Hooked up the Pangea phono cable last night. Replaced my BlueJeans cables. Not sure I got a real noticeable difference, initially felt like the mids might have been a bit more extended, taut. Also hooked up the AC14SE’s to the Hd-DAC1 and UltraDeck. Working well. Not sure about a big sonic difference. I have a ton of new stuff in the line right now, so tough to tell for me.
Yes sir. It uses a large resistor to set the bias for you.
Those tubes have been around the world! Made in Russia, to Upscale in California and now to you in Dublin.
Via @Slimwhit too haha!
