Since a lot of threads get hijacked about discussion of the gretest band ever ;). Time to start a U2 thread for all the random U2 talk (at least until there is a U2 AOTM to dedicate a thread too). @JoeC @Enoch

You're in, mcherry! You'll get your secret U2 decoder ring in the mail BEFORE your next VMP shipment (we like to clear low bars!).

Decoder rings come at the $40 price level of this fan club.

That's what I've been adding to my discogs wantlist... just FILLED with U2! Payday is tomorrow... I think it's time I rejoin the civilized folks who listen to Bono Vox do his thing on the greatest sound medium ever devised: ye olde vinyl!

Haha... U2 is a very capitalist band... no wonder why I like them so much. ;)

Nice. I'm always on the hunt for the original cover with the Boy on it. But I'm pretty sure that was the European release and not a whole lot made their way state side.

This all reminds me that my copy of War sounds like crap and I need to pick one up next time I see one in the local shop.

For some reason I always associate 'Angel of Harlem' with Christmas. Maybe the single was released around the holidays, or maybe that is when I got my copy of "Rattle & Hum" on cassette. Wore that thing out.

Love the live performance of that in Rattle and Hum, where they went to Sun Studios to record it. Larry stopping the song to scratch his foot was hilarious!

Apparently they didn't use the recording in the film for the album though. Seems like Bono hadn't completely figured out the lyrics yet to that one.

I know "Rattle & Hum" gets quite a bit of flack in some circles, but there are several songs on it that I just love. 'Angel of Harlem' is one of them. And I did check...it was released as a single in December of 1988, so that makes sense. It got a lot of radio airplay that holiday season.

I like U2 Achtung Baby and before.

I didn't like Zooropa. I hated Pop. And I stopped trying after that.

Bad and Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World are my 2 faves.

    Thank you for reading.

That one is great too. And I like the tracks with Dylan and B.B. King quite a bit. The whole album reminds me of this time of year, so I like to listen to it when December rolls around.

Could be the lyrics too! ;)

It was a cold and wet December day
When we touched the ground at JFK
Snow was melting on the ground
On BLS I heard the sound
    Of an angel

New York, like a Christmas tree
Tonight this city belongs to me
    Angel

"All I Want Is You" was our first dance song at our wedding.

I actually think a lot of the songs in the Rattle and Hum movie weren't the ones they used on the album.
