    Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece

    20190129_122351.jpg

“Cult records are too often like loaded dice, rigged for an outcome not necessarily desired by all parties. Contrarians and aesthetic fetishists crave difference, and as such can champion the obscure or underappreciated to downright ridiculous extremes. Despite what some have said in earnest or otherwise of this 1974 album over the years, the kaleidoscopic lens of Astral Weeks is the wrong prescription for viewing Veedon Fleece. It misses the damn point, that this gift, a treasure as mythical and mysterious as its titular provenance, cannot simply be discovered the same way you discovered *Astral Weeks* or really any other record in the artist’s deep catalog. This is a pilgrimage, one as sacred as it is demanding. You can hold Veedon Fleece the record in your hands, play it on your home stereo system, marvel at its majesty and restraint. You’ve earned that, provided you respect the quest the way the artist did.”

I'm going to guess it's something by the holy trinity...Let's go with Moving Pictures.

    "Esoteric, Sorta Classic Rock"

Not guessing yet, but there's a few threads that this could go in:

Something like pre-trio Genesis, Yes, ELP, Peter Gabriel, etc. (i.e. Progressive Rock-ish)

Or something like Thin Lizzy, James Gang, Mountain - i.e. rocks, but a little outside the mainstream of most classic rock fans.

I think we'll need a few more clues to narrow this one down.

Random guess: Gentle Giant - Octopus

    - Early 70s rock with some aspects that could be considered "classic rock" if we're looking at genre terms loosely
    - Esoteric; prog, maybe? This is a definitive prog rock album
    - Hasn't had a US release on vinyl since the 70s, although got a reissue in 2015 in the UK with a sweet sweet Steven Wilson remaster
    - Please

Genesis did do a a half speed remaster of We Can't Dance that came out recently. I don't really think of Genesis/Gebriel/Collins as classic rock, but I can see where that could be argued.

Hoping more something a little more rock like your second line of guesses.

Pink Floyd probs? Ummagumma is turning 50 this year, and it fits the "esoteric sorta classic rock" description
