While you guy are thinking about the lightweight US3 reissue. I trying to count how many Medeski, Martin, and Wood albums were released during Blue Note's contemporary era. I already have Combustication. I would love a vinyl copy of The Dropper.

I'd rather have MMW's first three Gramavision titles than The Dropper.
(And no need to call US3 lightweight. That album is outstanding.)

Compared to the musicianship of MMW, US3 is lightweight. I'm standing by that. I bought the album when it came out, but I wonder if it will stand the test of time.

Yea the Gramavision titles are among their best, but really think that The Dropper is the height of their Blue Note days. Felic followed by Partido Alto is unforgettable.

Maybe, but what it did for a whole generation of kids who thought jazz was elevator music let alone knew what Blue Note was can’t be underestimated. I’d argue it was the shot in the arm a whole genre needed to prevent becoming a relic.

Granted it was the most popular crossover, but wasn't the 90's rife with this type of usage of Jazz in hip hop.
I will say that the cash injection into Blue Note is probably responsible for its continued ability to reissue all their great music.

I have asked this question in the Storf AMA but thought I might ask you guys here too. Basically when the Classics were first announced I wasnt in the position to be able to add another sub. Im now trying to piece together the complete Classics to date and wondered which I should focus on in case they sell out. Any ideas?

Getz/Bird & Hooker are gone for good from the store, unless they pull a repress, but I don't count on it.

The Top 3 for me is Little Milton, Booker & Eddie Floyd. Darrell Banks as a close fourth.

Have you tried to add 30 copies of each record and see which one is running low on stock? In this list and still available in the store, my favorite is Koko Taylor.

I hate to say it but that Getz/Byrd and Hooker; both out of stock, might be the best of the bunch you need. They are both hot fiyah. Love Koko and the Lightmen though too.

I love the John Lee Hooker album, super annoyed I missed that. Going to have to be a discogs hunt for both those.

The good news is that Getz/Bird and Booker are available elsewhere. Lightmen either is or will be soon available from Now Again. Those would be my lowest priority in your situation.

Just a word on the JLH album. Depending on the crazy cogs prices. Analogue Productions did a 2 LP 45 reissue of "Serve You Right To Suffer" and it's awesome. And in many cases cheaper than buying the VMP edition and almost certainly sounds as good or likely better. I went that route as it cost less than tracking down the VMP version. If you don't mind not having the "set".

Add the other releases to your wantlist. I grabbed a copy because the person who put the record for sale added the CD version. While I was browsing his store, I spotted other VMP releases and I asked him what JLH release it was exactly... And it was the Classics release.
