I wish VMP did a special Classic Membership card for charter members. It truly is one of my proudest achievements

Respinning Waiting For Little Milton this morning and boy oh boy is this exactly what I needed today. Thank you so much VMP for Classics, through and through. (y)

Same here with such low stock on Cara Thomas. Hoping that the RHH is something I’m not interested in for the same reason (I’m presuming the essentials will be of interest based off of the clues I’ve heard)

    Hey Classics Crew,

I am looking to add a couple of more classics to my collection and am looking for some advice on which to pick up. I’ve decided on Koko Taylor, and I’m going to grab either William Bell, Eddie Floyd, or Darrel Banks. Those three seem to all be in the same category, and for the moment I can’t get all three. Which of those theee releases are the best in your opinion. Please consider, the music itself(of course) the remaster, and the package. I already have little Milton, if that factors in at all :)

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

William Bell because it is the oldest.

Personally I would go with William Bell and Eddie Floyd, although all of those that you have listed are really great. @Mr Moore sorted me out with the William Bell through the PIF thread and its honestly one of the Classics that gets played the most.

Thanks for your note. I’ve considered doing that so as to keep my options open down the road, but the steaming version of William bell, music aside, seems to have the poorest production value. Lots of hiss, and a general lack of crispness. Is this all remedied by the vmp remaster?

Some vinyl releases just blow you away with how great they sound, compared to streaming and there isn’t really a way to predict it- Stepping Into Tomorrow comes to mind.

For those that have heard all three which sounds the best?

Also Bell is like a little mini history of Soul Music to the time it was released. Plus he is one of the most important figures in Stax’s history.

Streaming shouldn’t have any hissing? That being said, my copy sounds gorgeous. I think this may just be the kind of thing that benefits from being on Vinyl.

    Good to know, thanks!

Listen to William Bell on Apple Music. It’s like they just turned it up way to loud. There is an undeniable hiss throughout the entire album. Glad to hear that isn’t present on the vinyl.

Blossom Dearie is a home run. What a wonderful selection. Rarely does a record make me smile the entire time I'm listening to it.

Darrell Banks is absolute fire. Probably my most spun Classics record. The pressing had some wide-spread issues, tho. A bunch of copies were off-center and bent.
The music is *chef kiss* though.

And because it’s the best. It’s probably my favourite Classics release.

Plan on getting them all, because they're all great. Start with the oldest because they seem to be going OOS based on age.
