I didn’t see a VPI having a thread here, and thought such a large player in turntables and cleaners deserved one. Is there a thread I’m missing?

If not, welcome to the VPI Fan Club thread! This should be a fun place to discuss VPI gear of all stripes, talk to owners, admirers, and even detractors. No secret squirrel handshakes or passwords needed.

I put in an order for this today, the VPI “Super Prime Scout.” It’s a dealer optioned deck (Upscale Audio in this case), with the 10.5” tonearm, the 20 LB platter from the Prime and VTA on the fly. I went with “Machined Graphite” and will be using a white Funk Firm Achromat platter mat. I hope to have it by the weekend.

Here’s a link in the interim and a stock photo.

I’m going to see how this works with my Zu/Denon DL-103 MK II and Rega Aria. I’m waiting on the @Ed Selley review of the new super Hana and may swap out the Rega for a Sutherland if the VPI and Rega don’t mesh.

Count me in. Although my table is over 30 years old it still does the job quite well. I have had a few upgrades done over the years. I have the TNT-2 platter, SAMA, SDS, and Applied Fidelity bearing. I also have 5 arms for it. I think it's still competitive with a lot of newer tables. So yeah count me in.

Sounds like a great table. Any pics to share by any chance? Especially of the arm collection?

VPI here. I have an Aries 1 with what I think is now called the superplatter (acrylic and aluminum), the 10” arm, and VTA on the fly. The total weight of this thing is 70lbs. There’s an Ortofon Blue on the table in the picture, but I’ve since replaced it with the Soundsmith VPI Zephyr.

I haven’t made any modifications to the table, but I’m curious about the dual pivot mod that VPI offers. Has anybody tried it out?

I'm off to listen to the 'Levinson' TT on Thursday which has the dual pivot arm so I'll see how it does.

I have loved almost every VPI I've ever listened to and I consider the Prime to be outstanding value for money. Not a perfect fit for a life of reviewing but for those with real jobs, it would be a fine choice.

I’ve heard that table twice in demonstrations. It’s a very nice piece of kit. My untrained ear has a hard time differentiating the table from the rest of the gear though. I heard it with a Mark Levison No. 585 driving Revel Ultima Salon2s and a second time with a No. 5805 driving Revel Performa3 F228Bes. Both systems sounded great. The 5805/F228Be system was at RMAF, so all
the usual disclaimers apply, but the larger system was at a friends house who is a dealer. I didn’t want to leave.

I love my 16.5 record cleaning machine. And I've often considered getting an ADS for my MoFi.

I have arm boards for all the arms for the VPI and the Denon. On the Linn just the AQ and Audiomods. I also have a Rega-250 and 300 laying around here also.

It's probably gone now but I saw a nice Walker controller for $695 on audiogon about 2 weeks ago. Would be real nice with your table.

I saw an ADS on eBay that had an opening bid under $700.

Wow. Upscale Audio doesn’t mess around with packaging. My VPI Super Prime Scout was delivered, all 56 lbs (!) of it.

The further up the chain you go, the bigger the boxes get. Gotta justify those price tags! ;):ROFLMAO:

I'm excited to see photos of it set up. Really nice deals on the packages. What cart did you go with?

Can't wait to hear what you think. Had I not gone MoFi, I would have gone VPI.
