I know we are bit more laid back here about gear and I love that but I just had to post my dream system ;) :D

These are my dream speakers- Infinity Reference Standard V. Seperate woofer and mid/tweeter enclosures. 7.5 feet tall. I heard a set once. It was a religious experience.

Retail before they were discontinued was $100k.

By the time I'm retired I fully expect my hearing to be shot. I'll downgrade, and hopefully pass on my system to my daughter who'd better friggen appreciate it.

I only listen at moderate listening levels now, and use hearing protection at work and at live music gigs. Hoping I have mine into my 70's. Just hope everything else is working as well :D

That's my fear about saving stuff for retirement. Obviously there's always hope you can manage to retire earlier but they keep raising the retirement age, and who knows what quality of life will be at that age, or worse still how much time you actually have from that point on.

Anyway in this particular case you gotta hope that the scientists will have your back and eventually come up with audiophile grade hearing aids.

I have heard the Infinity Ref's long ago......once in a room that was much to small for the speakers and of course it overpowered the room and there was so much resonance, compression and reverb that it sounded terrible. I heard it 2 years later in a excellent setting and it was the best sounding speaker I have ever heard at that time. Glorious!!

I know someone that was at a Salvation Army in upstate NY and saw they were using a McIntosh power amp on its side as a doorstop. He bought it for $5. On the way out the door, the matching preamp was now propping the door open. Yep. $5.

That stuff never happens to me.

Wow see that’s what I’m talking about! Funny I went to an estate sale a month ago for a media company. I walked past a McIntosh receiver but it’s front Glass was cracked, so I figured no one wanted it. So then my Fiancé starts wigging out wanting to leave and I ended up forgetting to go back and look it over, so as I’m leaving done guy bought it for $350.

Front glass in most cases can still be obtained from McIntosh.

Almost always........Mcintosh is one company that keeps/makes parts for every model of gear they ever created.....cept for CDP's/Music Servers(original Dacs/Transports) and the like can be hard to obtain as the years go by.

Yeah I know that now.....After I got home I was checking up on it and saw they do replace the glass but I think you have to ship it to them.
